A quick note about the Virginia Tech killings
I mentioned to several people, and have heard from several people, the idea that would some of the students have rushed the gunman it could have saved numerous lives, instead of sitting down 'execution style'. This goes back to the concept of, "Never Again" which is spoken about after the Holocaust. My hope is, just like after 9/11, people will react and neutralize any threat to their plane, now students will understand that they can't just sit back and wait to be killed, Heroic action is required. Eventually the killers will get the message that its just not worth it...
ps Two after thoughts: This assumes that suicide bombings never takes hold in the West and that the media stops the hype of making these murderers into martyrs by having their photo everywhere you look for days!
AARRGGHH!

GSPIA Public Speaking & Debate Club
I just want to say goodbye to my dear friends in the GSPIA debate club, Christian, Satoko, Devin and Goldy (Professor Donald Goldstein). I am proud to have served as an officer of the club for the past 2 years. I hope the next generation carries on the illustrious torch...For more information on our club, check out the GSPIA website at:Click here
Racial Issues on campus
Below is the text of a letter sent out by my division director to our entire school about the reaction to South Koreans on campus. I don't know about you, but I never thought twice about all South Koreans being homicidal maniacs! I might understand if this notice was sent out to the Korean students, but in my opinion it was of very poor taste to send out a general email like this...I guess some people have racial issues...
"I would like to add a special note to the Chancellor’s message that arises directly from the mission of GSPIA’s international programs. While we mourn the deaths at Virginia Tech, I want to speak directly to GSPIA’s students from South Korea and to reassure them that this is, indeed, their “campus home.” We have for many years welcomed students from South Korea and they have been important and respected residents of that “home.” They have added significantly and richly to the “vibrancy” and the life of Pitt’s campus and have continued to cherish their association with GSPIA and Pitt afterwards as alumni. So I want to reassure them that they are our very welcome guests and that we cherish our association with their country and want to extend and deepen it.
You are among friends, and you can depend upon our friendship.
